How To Train Your Dragon | Area Development

Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon: “This is Berk. It’s twelve days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death… We have fishing, hunting, and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems are the pests. You see, most places have mice or mosquitoes, we have…dragons. Most people would leave. But not us. We’re Vikings. We have stubbornness issues…”

BOSA was brought aboard to develop this village on the Isle of Berk. The area development is the land between the rides and concessions, where characters meander and turkey legs are raised in Viking belligerence. A master plan was in place and BOSA created an exact textured digital model of this land.

At BOSA, we have a “zero waste” policy in our model creation. When we create a digital model, we work closely with the downstream vendors to make certain it will fit in their pipeline and is not rebuilt from scratch. From this model, the show set fabricators, Adirondack, were able to pull their working blueprints directly from this model.

Our focus is creating cinematic, fabrication-ready digital models using rapid techniques honed on tent-pole features.
